North Yorkshire Trading Standards ‘Pop-Up’ at Selby Market

Selby 151207 c300pxTrading Standards Officers from North Yorkshire County Council set up a ‘pop-up’ stall at Selby Market displaying a wide range of fake goods to raise shoppers’ awareness of the harm caused by the trade in counterfeit goods. The initiative was organised with Selby Market, which recently signed the Real Deal Charter to demonstrate its commitment to fake-free shopping. The stall created a great deal of interest among shoppers and traders at the market and was considered a great success by the trading standards officers manning the stall.

Partnership Work at Camden

The IPO has produced a superb, short film to celebrate the success of a partnership project between the National Markets Group for IP Protection and Camden Trading Standards to deliver fake-free market shopping.

A new initiative aiming to prevent the sale of counterfeit goods in markets across North Wales has been launched.
In the first joint-initiative of its kind in the UK, six neighbouring local authorities across North Wales have joined forces to support the region’s local markets and keep them fake-free by simultaneously introducing the Real Deal charter at 16 markets.
The project has been launched now to enable Real Deal market procedures and advice for traders to be in place in the run-up to the busy Christmas shopping season. Continue reading

Black Isle Show Will be The Real Deal

Visitors to the Black Isle Show on the 5th and 6th August will be assured of getting the Real Deal after The Highland Council and the Black Isle Farmers Society made a commitment to keep them free of fake goods.

Organisations throughout the UK have signed up to the Real Deal markets’ charter, a nationwide initiative that encourages local authority Trading Standards and market operators to work closely together and share information so that local markets, car boot sales remain free from counterfeit goods and are a safe environment in which to shop and trade. The agreement is the first of its kind in the Highlands and the furthest North for the Real Deal Scheme. Continue reading

National Markets Group launches inaugural awards to recognise achievements in tackling IP crime

At the Chartered Institute of Trading Standards conference in Bournemouth last week (Wed 1 July 2015), Leon Livermore, CEO of the CTSI presented the inaugural National Markets Group Awards.

The National Markets Group for IP Protection (NMG), which consists of representatives from industry, enforcement and government, works in partnership to reduce the availability of counterfeit and pirated goods at markets, car boot sales and social media platforms such as Facebook. Continue reading
