Glasgow’s markets are the ‘Real Deal’

20140630.075332The Real Deal charter is a UK wide initiative that encourages local authority trading standards and market operators to work closely together and share information so that local markets remain free from criminal activity and are a safe environment in which to shop and trade.

Patricia Lennon, Real Deal Campaign Director said: “Having already introduced the Real Deal Charter at Blochairn, the largest car boot sale in Scotland, we are delighted that City Property Markets has now rolled out the principle of fake-free trading to all of its other markets across Glasgow. By signing the Real Deal charter, Glasgow City Council Trading Standards and City Property Markets are making a firm statement that fake goods and other illicit goods have no place at the city’s markets.”

Upon signing the charter on behalf of City Property Markets, Councillor Martin Rhodes, Chair of City Property (Glasgow) LLP, said:
“We made our intentions clear that when the car boot sale at Blochairn became the first in Scotland to sign the Real Deal charter that we would continue to work closely with our partners at Trading Standards until we ensured that all of our market operations achieved similar status. The signing of this charter is a positive reflection on that commitment. Our markets provide opportunities for many local businesses to trade and grow throughout Glasgow and as the market operator; it is our responsibility to protect these legitimate traders by eradicating as risk posed by illegal activity.”
