Brent’s in A Real Deal partnership to ensure only high quality markets are held at Wembley Park

Brent & Harrow Trading Standards has entered an innovative partnership with Market Place (Wembley Park) Ltd, by signing the Real Deal charter to ensure the new programme of markets planned at Wembley Park operate to the highest standards and are free from fake goods.

By signing up to Real Deal, Market Place has committed itself to working with the Trading Standards Service to comply with the scheme to ensure consumers shopping at any of their markets or events do so with the confidence that they will only be buying genuine goods.

The national Real Deal scheme requires market operators to sign up to a code of practice which includes working and taking advice from Trading Standards, prohibiting the supply of illegal goods, keeping proper records of trader’s identities and individuals working on stalls and promoting consumer advice.

Speaking at the signing, Market Place Chief Executive, Nick Rhodes said: “Market Place is absolutely delighted to be offered the opportunity by Quintain to operate markets and events at Wembley Park. The aims and aspirations of Market Place are to provide quality markets and events that will appeal to both the local and wider community. In providing quality events Market Place welcome joining forces with Brent and Harrow Trading Standards in signing a Real Deal Charter.”

Bill Bilon, Head of Consumer & Business Protection at Brent Council, said:
“We are delighted to be able to accept Marketplace into the “Real Deal” scheme. My Officers are looking forward to working with Marketplace after the significant problems relating to the sale of counterfeit goods from the previous market. This scheme which will enhance the consumer’s confidence and provide a level playing field for those who come and trade”.

Liz Bales, Director General of the Industry Trust for IP Awareness, which initiated the Real Deal campaign, added, “On behalf of all the stakeholders in the Real Deal, I am delighted that the new markets at Wembley Park are now part of the Real Deal scheme. By displaying the Real Deal logo, the market is giving an assurance to shoppers that it is a safe, fair venue and a great place to shop and to trade. It also sends a clear message to any traders in counterfeit goods that they are not welcome here.
