Setting out on the right foot in retail business means being aware of the legal responsibilities of trading including intellectual property law. Read more about how the NMTF’s National Youth Market initiative is helping young traders on their first steps . . .

The National Youth Market, an initiative by the National Market Traders Federation, supported by NABMA and Manchester Markets (all long-standing supporters of the Real Deal project), has provided a valuable opportunity for young traders, aged 16-30, to develop the skills and best practices that lead to success as a market trader.

The initiative culminated in a lively street market event in the centre of Manchester, on 2nd and 3rd of September, at which 30 youthful entrepreneurs offered their wares. Amongst the young traders, who came from across the UK, were several market champions put forward by their local markets in Manchester, Cirencester, Stoke-on-Trent, Stevenage and Kirklees.

More information on the project can be found on the NMTF website. For a video about the event click here.

One of the information resources provided by NMTF to the young participants was the Real Deal’s ‘How to Stay IP Legal’ leaflet. This useful resource provides essential legal information and practical advice not just to those starting out in the market business but to all traders. Download a copy here.
